GLIMMER
About Us
Glimmer is a theatre company telling compelling stories for audiences of all ages. We love female-led tales of action and adventure, rediscovering secret histories of people whose input into our country - and our culture - have been forgotten.
Since 2015 we have performed shows, facilitated workshops and put on public events across London, Cambridge and The South East.
In a world with limited resources we place the artistry of reusing and recycling at the heart of everything we create, including props, sets, lights and costumes.
This is because we believe in “A Rich Theatre by Little Means”, telling epic stories with exuberant movement, beautiful lighting, engaging performers and big-hearted music. We're certain that the future and the power of theatre lies in the imagination of its audience.
Working in collaboration with children's events company Sharky and George we have created shows and events for clients including Google and HarperCollins.
Our most recent rural tour was a brand new family show, featuring a live original score of soaring folk tunes and ballads. The River Runner tells the thrilling tale of Annabelle Howgego, a Victorian ice skater who uses her extraordinary skating skill to defeat her cruel landlord and set her village free.
In December 2020, frustrated at the way that access to theatre (and art in general) was being pummelled by the lockdown restrictions we took over an empty shop unit on a street in Cambridge and presented Covid compliant performances behind glass, based on suggestions from passers-by and bringing squares on our community quilt to life:

We have also been touring our Cabareilidh to community venues and high streets over the last five years. It fuses ceilidh dancing with cabaret performances and offers opportunities for communities to meet (and dance!) with people they might not otherwise interact with. Last year we even performed at a Christmas Light Switch on!
